How to Use Governance Online Meetings
Governance Online meetings can take a variety of forms, but the most important thing to have successful governance meetings is that participants can talk to one another in the same way as have if they were meeting in person. This means sharing screens with video and voice calling, and allowing immediate responses to questions. It is also a way to ensure that any person could be asked to leave the meeting at any point Board portal in the event that their presence is disruptive or inappropriate, and they will receive an immediate email with an explanation of the decision taken.
It is essential that the chairperson or presiding officer of the meeting is able to keep the meeting on schedule. A good governance meeting should have an agenda that is strict and have time limits for each item. This will ensure that the statutory governance standards are adhered to, and if the governance meeting is reviewed by an outside entity, it’s likely that they’ll seek evidence of these standards.
In a perfect world, governance meetings would be held every week. However, this is not always feasible for all teams. If you are just starting out with Roles, it is best to schedule your first handful of meetings close to each other. As your team becomes more comfortable working in roles, you can reduce the frequency of your meetings.
It is also beneficial to conduct short check-ins between meetings on governance to keep the team in touch and provide a chance for those with concerns or questions to have their concerns addressed. It’s also an excellent chance to build stronger relationships with the senior management team.
